Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all HOD dads. I take this opportunity to encourage the drumming dads in striving to keep their passion for drumming in balance, and I know, it's easier said than done.

I was recently asked to be a judge at a Drumming Competition (a first for me). Last night was the night and I promised my heldest that I'd do my very best to take him along. As I was working yesterday, the work load prevented me to finish on time to pick my son up and go to the Event... His heart was broken to pieces, I arrived home at 23:00 and he was still waiting for me... [img]frown.gif[/img]

We can get so busy with this and that, preventing us to be WHERE we should be WHEN we should be.

Here's a read I thought was significant enough to share.

I just love hanging out with my children. We do things together. It's part of my schedule.

When Bryndan was eleven years old he wanted to play football. That fall I was scheduled to travel a great deal, but I made a commitment to him that I would be at all of his games.

One weekend I was speaking on the West Coast on Friday, Bryndan had a game on Saturday, and I was scheduled to speak at a banquet in the Washington, D.C., area on Saturday night. In order to keep my word, I had to fly all night from Los Angeles back to Atlanta for his game.

When I got there, rain was pouring down. There were only half a dozen parents in the stands. But there I was, in the stands with my umbrella up, rooting on this little guy of mine and his friends at their football game. Afterward Bryndan said to me, "Dad, I know you said you'd be at all my games, but you didn't have to come today. Nobody else was there."

I said, "Buddy, I promised you that I would be there, and I wanted to make sure that I showed up."

There are very few things I
like more than drumming.

Being a Popi is one of them.

Every tune is different. You
rest during part of it and
play during others. Life is
no different, as a father and
silence, during parts of the
gig is as important as the
parts where you solo.

There is NOTHING like being
with your children. NOTHING.

Happy Father's Day to fathers
and soon to be fathers of the
future. You will be born again,
through your children. You will
see and what, oh, what a bles-
sing they are!
